NCAOOSCE Team Engages Kiru Chief Imam on Almajiri Welfare Programme
The Kano State team of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE) has engaged religious leaders and Tsangaya schools in Kiru Local Government Area as part of efforts to promote the Almajiri Mai Uwar Daki Programme.
During a meeting with the Chief Imam of Kiru, Malam Mahmoud Mu’awiyya, the team discussed ways to strengthen community awareness and support for Almajiri education and welfare, with particular emphasis on tackling street begging through a household adoption model.
Malam Mu’awiyya pledged his support for the initiative, promising to use Friday sermons and regular mosque teachings to encourage public participation and promote the programme across Kiru Local Government Area.
As part of the ongoing registration exercise, the team also visited and sensitised five Tsangaya schools in Kiru Ward to raise awareness of the programme and encourage participation.
Registration for the Almajiri Mai Uwar Daki Programme is continuing across all 15 wards of Kiru Local Government Area.
The initiative seeks to improve the welfare and educational opportunities of Almajiri children through a household-based support system, while encouraging community involvement in addressing the challenges associated with street begging.
